The year 2015 is new in the chronological sense, but may not necessarily uncover new dimensions of your life. For the New Year to convey novel manifestations of your glorious spiritual and mental capacities, you must be willing to put in this year what you were unwilling to do in 2014. This year, one of the areas where I would want you to work on is your prayer life. Much of the change you would want to see in your life will depend on it. This week I would want to share with you some amazing benefits of prayer that will stir you up and make you resolve to pray more in 2015 than you ever have in your life.
2 Peter 1: 17, 18
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
The scripture above is Peter’s account of the experience at the mount of transfiguration. The Gospels’ accounts (Mark 9: 2-9; Luke 9:28-36; Matthew 17: 1-9) provide more details about this awesome event. According to the Luke account Jesus took with him Peter, James and John unto a high mountain to pray. While Jesus prayed (Peter and the other two were sleeping!) “the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistening” (Luke 9:29)
You are changed when you pray
Prayer does not change God, it changes us. Just like Jesus’ physical appearance changed while at the mount, you will see physical changes in your life if you will spend time on the mountain – if you will spend time alone with God in your prayer closet. If you are seeking changes in your finances, your marriage or your health, make the time to pray and you will see the change that you desire.
In prayer you are revealed as God’s choice
While Jesus was transfigured there appeared unto him Elijah and Moses, pillars of the old Testament, talking with Him. While they were speaking a bright cloud overshadowed them and a voice spoke from the cloud saying, \”This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him\”. God’s call on your life will be made evident when you spend time in prayer. If you want God to announce you to the world spend time in prayer. In Acts 13 the Bible said while certain believers, including Paul ministered to the lord, the Holy Ghost said, “Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them” (Acts 13:2). God’s call on your life becomes evident when you spend time in prayer. If you are not certain of the details of God for your life or ministry dedicate yourself to prayer.
Paul and Barnabas may have had a witness in their spirit but at this meeting the call was made public. If you will make time with God He will go public concerning his call on your life.
Experience the Glory and Honour – live above the ordinary
2 Peter 1:17 says Jesus received glory and honour while on the mountain. You experience the glory of God when you spend time in conversation with the Father. These encounters in prayer empower you to live a limitless life. Allow God to let you in on secrets that will set you up above the rest in whatever field of endeavor you are involved in.
Let 2015 be the year you have prayed most in your life, and see whether your life will not change for the better before your very eyes and before the rest of the world.
