Oftentimes, believers are cautious about sounding too spiritual for fear that they will be seen as not being ‘real’, or practical, and subsequently ridiculed. But the truth is that spiritual things are more real than physical things. The Bible says that, “Through faith we understand that the worlds came into being, and still exist, at the command of God, so that what is seen does not owe its existence to that which is visible” (Hebrews 11:3 –Weymouth translation). The material indeed sprang out of the immaterial. This is why your God-given vision, which is immaterial, will shape your situation, which is material. It is easy to see Jesus as dwelling in the spirit realm, than it is for us to see ourselves as such (Romans 8:9), but the truth is that we are as much spirit beings as God is spirit. Jesus told Nicodemus, “that which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit” (John 3:6). You are more than mere flesh and blood – you are a spirit being!
The Bible says that God raised Jesus from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come (Ephesians 1:20,21). But that is not all; further down in chapter 2, we learn that God did for us what He first did for Jesus. “And hath raised us together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 2:6). Hallelujah, we are seated with Christ, far above all principality and power and might and dominion!
However this truth may appear far-fetched because, we are not as conscious of this spiritual reality as we are of our physical location. The key to unlocking the life of the spirit lies in understanding the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 16:12, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth. Truth simply means reality. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of reality, and He brings the reality of the word of God into our lives. He initiates and navigates us into the reality of the spirit world and into our inheritance in Christ. This means without the Holy Ghost and His ministry in our lives, we cannot enjoy or walk in the reality of what Jesus died and was raised for.
This is why we must spend quality time in fellowship with the Holy Spirit because He is the teacher of our understanding in things pertaining to God and our inheritance in Christ. The Holy Spirit helps us to access and live out the spiritual blessings that have been freely given us (Ephesians 1:3). As we engage the Holy Spirit, through meditating the Word and prayer we will frame the material world with the immaterial realm of God. That is when we live up to our dominion mandate, and begin to subdue the earth.
Rule for God!
