The Power of Your Attention

I would like to unveil to you a very important resource you already possess. I trust that this truth will bring to your awareness the need to assess how you are using it and how you should use this precious possession you have. For some, this would be a refresher or a reminder on how to invest this resource to advance your life and to help others.

Your attention is a resource
This priceless resource I am talking about is your attention. You might have been conscious of giving time or money as a resource but haven’t considered your attention as one of them. In the school of success, optimum resource allocation makes the difference, and not just the quantum of resources you possess. Your attention is a resource, and how you allocate it plays a significant role in the experiences and outcome of your life. There is no impossibility to the one who devotes his or her full attention to resolving problems and challenges. Therefore if something is not working, check the level of attention you are giving it. Your attention speaks volumes about your life. You can change your life by changing your attention.

Acts 3:2-5 KJV
And a certain man lame from his mother\’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

Attention on demand
From the above scripture, the miraculous couldn’t have happened without maximum attention. Peter invested uninterrupted attention and demanded same. Never settle for giving full attention in exchange for half attention. Any endeavour, business or relationship that does not respond with the corresponding attention you have invested is not worthwhile. This is because your attention is an indication of your priority. As far as God is concerned, you have not sought Him until you have made Him priority. Thus, attending to God’s Word and making Him priority is non-negotiable. When attention meets attention, there is an explosion. Expect to receive something when you invest attention. Intense attention will break down any barrier.

Shift your attention

Where is your attention? To answer this question, it requires taking inventory and auditing the things that have your attention. You can’t afford to spend your attention recklessly. If you don’t esteem your attention to be a resource, you are likely to generously give it to things that do not deserve it. Don’t waste your attention on the wrong crowd or market. If your attention is in the right place, on the right person and in the right thing, it positions you for a raise that will be profitable to you. Refuse to be distracted. Move your attention from impossibilities to possibilities; from lack to abundance and from the problem to the solution.

Your attention will change your life, if it hasn’t already.

Take action.

Rule and subdue!
